My kids and I set up activities with friends that they love. If you love to craft with your kids but don’t want to have a a lot of clean up consider doing outside … pick a park.
So painting bird houses is one of those things that the kids wanted to do because it fulfilled their summer passport ( a local summertime town thing that can win them prizes). So we got cheap already build bird houses you can find them at local craft stores, Joann’s had them and they were cheaper then the dollar tree prices with a bogo.
With painting, I’m all about easy and with kids they can create for hours or have only 30 minutes attention span to do something so it’s imperative to keep it simple…. be flexible. If you have to built the bird houses make that two different day activities. Building and painting.
It was a lovely day out in the park so we decided to to bring our bird houses to paint.
List of things for park painting:
- brushes with a container for easy grabbing for all the kids,
- A disposable cup for dirty paint brushes
- acrylic paints(leave no mess behind with water based paints can wash right off)
- water containers for painters (I used disposable cups),
- paper towels for clean up,
- extra water bottles for water use, paper plates for creations to be painted on and taken home on( do double the number for each house you get),
- plastic tablecloths —-to keep the mess on. If needed packaging tape or these metal clips to keep the table cloths in place.
Before painting in the park: First check at a public park if the bathrooms are open so kids can clean up and get close in proximity to them. If the bathroom was not super close to the tables our painting would have been messer.
We had 6 kids and they all were able to paint with supervision have enough adults to watch them in a public place. Leave no mess behind it’s imperative to do this. Some children will finish and start trying to play with paint. They just want to create more if you have more projects let them do it. If not it’s time for clean up.
