How do we overcome mentally the frozen tundra

This polar vortex called global warming has left many parts of the Rookies a vest frozen tundra. Because of this months and months of cold and so much snow. People are suck indoor more how do we remain sane. How do we overcome cabin fever? Depression during these cold and dark months has been hard for many people overcome. Reframe your mind to not have cabin fever.for me I felt plagued with this. no sun does it take it still it’s toll, I know there are heat lamps and a couple of other tools to help with this emotion and physical need to have the sun. Right now I want to talk about the need for engaging your mind to get out of depression.

For me, I have found that overcoming these days has been making plans. Whether for now or for later. For example, if I want to go to a tropical place I plan that vacation by writing it down. Hold myself to deadlines and accountability. Choose what do you want to do, like a blog green geeks hosting is amazing, or start something new like yoga. Learn something new which learning something new engages your whole brain and helps quiet your stress and shifts your brain to focus on something else. In the book what happy people know, the author talks about how in stressful situations you need to engage your frontal lobe so that your survival brain is not at the helm. When engaging in your frontal lobe you’re making logical, choice decisions and your brain is allowing calmness because you’re choosing to do things and not allowing stressful situations to take your brain into that lizard brain. Ahh the lizard brain better know as the Amygdala, is great for survival and basically keeps our body alive when the rest of the power is out. Also the lizard brain is where our we have the fight, flight or freeze thoughts, it’s our seats for emotions, mental processing.

If jumping in goals scares you. Try mediation daily, there are many great ones available out there one of my favorites is from Michelle Chaffant mediations here. She was a psychotherapist for years and just very down to earth. Hers have truly helped me out throughout the years, I was introduced to one when I was at a retreat years ago. I think looking at your mental health and understanding the tools in which can help you out are the most important things to learn. With having cerebral palsy in a society where there are many different thought processes in that people don’t know how to interact with each other. It can be confusing on how to navigate it. That’s why I tend to like to learn how to reframe the things that I struggle with. I really get annoyed easily with other people that are not kind.  The difference in generations thinking differently  spanning from baby boomers, to generation X, millennials and generation Z can lead to many misunderstandings and miscommunications. What one finds appropriate in behavior, The other find repulsive. So of course there’s going to be a lack of communication and understanding because of the differences in thought process. In my next musings I will talk about this and how linguistically, cognitively, emotionally and mentally these groups differ. And how to make make it so you can understand one another.

Get off social media platforms when you are sad and lonely from the weather. Social media is bad for this it’s like a mirror of what your thinking. Unfortunately…. if you feel like getting support with your feelings of distress you will find many who are there too. The feeling sad because your friends don’t comment or like your posts can be depressing. Instead Call a trusted friend and meet with them you need that person to person chat with them about what you are struggling with.
