Wizard of Oz poppy jokes aside. This was a refreshing hike to the poppies in Alpine. No prancing in the poppies they are delicate- and not really a field of them yet. But this native plant will be in the next few years not as impressive as tulip fields but they are poppies more wild and untamed. Historically in the US they are the military flower to remember the soldiers and have hope for the future. They had a historical cabin up there in the front of the gate hiding some of the ruins -it was cool. Until I saw a sign for beware of the rattle snakes always remember you are in a mountain desert. lol. Don’t sit down up there and they had a whole path that was blocked off because it was rattle snake season. The poppy path was well marked and were beautiful -expect the hike was steep and about a mile and a half. I got up it -so it is no Mount Timpanogos that is 100 percent incline. But it is not an easy flat grounded hike. Worth it!
